Water and Light

I was struck particularly this week by the way the light is transformed under water. Whether it be the ocean or just a cup of water, the light surrounding always embraces a captivating illumination. Earlier as I simply observed a glass of water next to a window, vibrant concentrations of light in strange linear like shapes could be found reflecting in the surrounding space. Spinning the clear glass had little to no impact to the resulted process, however, as the water began to catch more movement the shapes danced as well. I found this fluid movement of light to be quite intriguing. With the water acting as a lens similar to the glass ones found in the professional lights we use, the difference that I found so compelling here is the flexibility and malleability of the state of liquid water. As the lens is now able to shift organically, the light produced will also provide and organic wave to its quality. Working with moving lights and other strategies to abstract the light further is something I find myself very interested in, as well as how this may affect or change the presentation of the performers.
