Hello 50c!
Hey 50c!
My name is Jake Brinkman and I am the other TA for you this quarter! I am a first year lighting grad hailing from Buffalo NY. I am a huge fan of coffee and anything spicy. If any of you have a favorite chicken wing place to eat, let me know as I am missing good Buffalo wings.
Lighting to me is very exciting, especially building up to it through the design process. Unlike the other areas of design, there is no 100% fool proof way to show the director or your other collaborators what the lighting is going to look like. This is why its important to have a great vocabulary at the ready to help describe all of the emotions, textures and physical presence that the light will bring to the stage. This is something that I am learning that I often overthink! The more I talk about it over and over again I find myself becoming a much stronger designer. My fellow designers appreciate it as I am sculpting the light the way I need to in their heads as well.
My favorite part of design is focus! This is truly the first time you get to see how the light is reacting to the set. Its like a big playground for me as I get to dance around the stage sculpting the light just the way I have been seeing it in my mind throughout all of the meetings and rehearsals leading up to this point.
I look forward to meeting and working with all of you this quarter!
