B.C. Blog Post #2

Hey everybody, Brent Courtney here again throwing another cool image your way.

The picture you see here is me standing knee deep behind an epic waterfall. I stumbled across this secret spot while I was hiking with a group of friends on the "Bridge To Nowhere" trail in the San Gabriel Mountains. I was reminded of this picture yesterday, when the friend who captured the awesome moment brought it up, during a conversation. I recalled that the only route to this waterfall was so far off the beaten path and narrow from the surrounding rocks/foliage that the only source of light was from over the water. What you get with this breathtaking combination is a light source resembling, some may say, "a realm beyond our world".

This image offers a whole new meaning to the word "skylight". As mentioned, the trees and leaves concentrating the light into one burst act nearly similar to what we use in theater. One can consider that it may be a natural gobo or shutter like in a LEKO. Almost makes you wonder what's on top of the rocks you know. As another stunning example of backlighting, this picture wouldn't be the same if it were from any other angle. Most people take pictures or enjoy waterfalls from afar, but how many truly get to experience nature's finest, up close and personal like this? It's so interesting how lighting can affect the way we view/engage with the scenery whether in theater or in real life.

Thank you for reading. Until next time :)
